Greencoast was established in 2012 by Andrew Gudmundseth to provide reliable, high-quality electrical services in the Cowichan Valley. He quickly built a solid reputation completing small upgrades, renovations and by serving general contractors on new construction projects.
The company’s trajectory shifted toward green energy in 2015, after Andrew was called to repair severe roof damage caused by a substandard, third-party solar installation. Witnessing that frustration firsthand, Andrew committed to providing Islanders with reliable, high-quality solar, electrical, and roofing services—all delivered by local teams who live and work right here on Vancouver Island.

This roofing incident revealed a critical gap to Andrew: the solar industry desperately needed responsible, quality electrical expertise combined with essential roofing and building envelope knowledge to ensure systems were properly integrated and installed without compromising the structure.
Driven to merge clean energy with true electrical craftsmanship, Andrew began specializing in solar power. Since then, he has personally overseen the successful installation of many megawatts of solar capacity, ensuring every system is built to last and seamlessly integrated. His company has grown steadily providing both electrical and solar servicing the Island region.

James Thackray
Executive Director, Business Development
A native of Victoria, James comes to Greencoast with a unique executive and educational background leading both public and private sector organizations. Spanning more than 25 years, his successful career path in the solar, hydrogen and municipal space provides unique leadership experience, skills and knowledge to help grow and expand Greencoast Power.
Responsibilities include strategic planning, business development, relationship management, goal setting, business planning, marketing/branding, major client and government relations, and target audience definition.
In his spare time, James enjoys spending time with friends and family, golfing (poorly), swimming (slowly), cross-country skiing, hiking in nature with his four legged friends and volunteering.
Demetri Monti-Browning
Project Manager
A Shawnigan Lake native, Demetri Monti-Browning has a diverse professional and educational background that ultimately led to his calling in the electrical trade back in 2016. Following in his grandfather's footsteps, Demetri has since worked in all fields of electrical services and remains eager to continuously learn and master new aspects of the business as well as manage project operations.
With years of experience, Demetri’s career growth has spanned a wide variety of solar and electrical projects including successful design, installation and commissions.
When not on the job, Demetri enjoys his personal time fishing, playing soccer, baseball, shooting pool, and regularly jamming with his church band.
Andrew Gudmundseth
Owner & Founder
A Cowichan Valley native, Andrew spent his early career and electrical education journey honing his technical skills in the Alberta oil and gas industry plus a year at the Crofton pulp mill. He then built on this experience and eventually started his own electrical services company. Leading his company, Andrew expanded to include solar energy after being asked to repair a damaged roof with a solar system.
Successfully re-engineering and re-installing the array, he saw an opportunity to help the environment and his clients adopt clean energy. Fast forward, this journey led him to establish and lead Greencoast Power.
Andrew has a pioneering spirit, vision and leadership guiding our corporate direction and growth. He also oversees employee administration, procurement, and project operations teams, too. When he's not on the job, Andrew is an active member of the community, often found coaching or playing rugby, golfing, or fishing.
